Relatives of missing protest on Thai Pongal day (video) Featured

Northern people demanding to know the fate of their missing relatives staged a protest in Vavuniya on Thai Pongal day and started collecting signatures for a petition that calls for an international mediation, radiogagana.com says.

Noting that the Sri Lankan government nor the president are coming to their aid, the group that has been staging a protest campaign for nearly 700 days, urged the United States and the European Union to help find the missing.

One of the protesters, Kasipillai Jayawanitha, said her daughter Jeromi, who went missing before the 2015 presidential polls, was in an election campaign poster of president Maithripala Sirisena.

The protesters carried flags of the US and the EU.

Head of the Vavuniya citizen’s committee Gopalakrishnan Rajkumar said the US had the technology to find the missing and can help find their missing children alive.
