Moves to reconcile Maithri & Fonseka Featured

Several Buddhist monks are mediating to reconcile president Maithripala Sirisena and UNP MP Sarath Fonseka, reliable sources told Sri Lanka Mirror.

The president will meet Fonseka soon after he returns from his ongoing foreign trip, according to the sources.

Due to the animosity between the two, president Sirisena refused to grant a cabinet position to Fonseka despite a recommendation by prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Over this, Fonseka had decided to file a human rights violation case against the president in the Supreme Court.

However, a decision against taking any such step was agreed at talks between PM Wickremesinghe and Shiral Lakthilake, senior adviser to the president.

Thereafter, Fonseka’s adviser Capt. Senaka de Silva held several rounds of discussions with close associates of the president.
