Water supplies disconnected at Nallatanniya town vehicle park Featured

Pilgrims to Sri Pada are reportedly affected after the National Water Board disconnected three water supplies to the common vehicle park at Dalhousie (Nallatanniya) town yesterday (16).

The Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabha maintains this vehicle park, where some pilgrims also cook and have their meals.

Nuwara Eliya district engineer of the National Water Board Tharindu Niroshan says the Ambagamuwa PS has to pay nearly Rs. 40,000 as arrears for two water supply connections to the vehicle park for last year.

The supplies were disconnected after the PS failed to respond to several written payment reminders, he says.

Meanwhile, an area resident claims pilgrims will not be affected much as there are drinking water supplies using overhead tanks at several locations in the town.

However, pilgrims say there are no water tanks in the vicinity of the car park.

Another area resident says the disconnection of the supplies is a move to aid owners of bowsers who fill these tanks at a charge.
