SLPP will win with or without SLFP - Basil Featured

Whether there is an agreement between the SLPP and the SLFP or not the SLPP is capable of winning any election in the future, said its architect Basil Rajapaksa.

He made this comment at a meeting held between the provincial council representatives and himself at the SLPP office.

“Currently many politicians are making numerous statements regarding the election, while others are trying to insinuate that if the SLPP does not join hands with the SLFP, they would be unable to win an election.

This wrong notion should be corrected. Even if the flower bud does not join with the hand symbol, we have the ability to win elections and we have proved it. However, if these two parties join hands, the UNP could face a comprehensive defeat,” he said.

''Agreement is vital prior to forming alliance''

However, the National Organiser of the SLFP Duminda Dissanayake noted that prior to the SLPP and SLFP join hands to form an alliance, there should be an agreement as to who the next presidential candidate should be.

He said the SLFP stand is that Maithripala Sirisena should be the Presidential candidate, adding that any party could join the SLFP, but the party should get leadership of such an alliance.

However, according to the SLPP Provincial Council Circle, any future election should be contested under the SLPP.
