IMF inspection report expected tomorrow Featured

The inspection report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives who visited the country is expected to be handed over tomorrow, according to the Finance Ministry.

The team of IMF representatives arrived in the country recently to hold talks regarding the loans to be granted to Sri Lanka. They had also met with the Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday (18).

It is also reported that the IMF team had met with the Finance Ministry Secretary and the Central Bank Governor.

The team is scheduled to meet with the prime Minister today (19) and also several heads of government institutions in the country engaged in development projects.

Subsequent to these discussions, the IMF team is scheduled to hand in their report with regard to the fifth loan installment for Sri Lanka.

The IMF has granted four of the lean installments to Sri Lanka, while the fifth installment was due to be granted in November last year.

However, due to the volatile political situation in the country the IMF had decided to temporarily suspend the installment.

Thereafter, Minister Mangala Samaraweera and his team had held discussions with the IMF with regard to obtaining the fifth loan installment for Sri Lanka. As a result of these discussions, the IMF team is currently in Sri Lanka, the Finance Ministry sources said.
