Parcel arrived from Germany contained narcotics

Acting Media Spokesman, Vipula Minuwangoda says that, a parcel containing narcotics, ecstasy, which is commonly used in European countries, has been sent from Germany to the Central Postal Exchange.

The parcel had been sent to the name of a 23 year old man of Dehiwala, Colombo on October 23, 2018, the suspect has been arrested on the 13th of this month when he absconding authorities without coming to clearance.

The Customs officers had opened the parcel and found 523 boxes containing illegal drugs amounting to Rs. 20,92,000, the Customs Media Spokesman further said.

On the instructions of the Director General (Legal Enforcement) of the Sri Lanka Customs, Lal Jayaweera, Director of Customs (Social Security) P.G. Sumanapala, Deputy Customs Directors K.H.P. Kumarasiri, Ajith Duminda, Customs Superintendents Lal de Silva, H.G. S. Sumathipala, Assistant Customs Superintendent, H.G.S. Weligampitiya engaged in investigations and the apprehension.

The arrested person and the parcel of the drug have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Unit for further investigations.
