The Legal Draftsman has prepared a document to include a new paragraph 14(3A) for the amendment of the 1948 No. 20 Immigration and Emigration Act paragraphs 14(1) and 14(2).

Through the new amendment investors who remit $ 500,000 to Sri Lanka would be granted a 10 year visa, those who remit $ 300,000 would be given five year visas and for Sri Lankans who now hold citizenship of other countries, the subject minister could specify a time frame that they could live in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the proposal in this regard was presented to the Cabinet by Minister of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils & Local Government Vajira Abeywardena which was approved. Thereafter, it will be gazetted and presented to parliament.
