Second reading of budget passed

The second reading of the 2019 Budget was passed in Parliament today ( 12 March).

119 votes were cast in favour of the budget while 76 were cast against it and 29 parliamentarians abstained from voting.

The United National Front (UNF), Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) voted in favor of the Budget reading.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the Joint Opposition section of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) voted against the budget.

The Budget 2019 was presented to the Parliament on 5th March by Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera.

The third reading of the debate also known as the Committee Stage Debate will commence from tomorrow (13) and the vote will be taken on the 05th of April.
