Opposed to JVP’s 20 but will consider abolishing Executive Presidency -MR Featured

Although he is against the 20th Amendment proposed by the JVP, he is willing to consider the abolition of the Executive Presidency, said Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa in Welihena, Negombo.

He said this in response to questions posed by journalists when he had gone to pay his last respects to MP Sudharshini Fernandopulle’s father Alphonso Fernandopulle at his funeral. 

A special meeting was held between the JVP leaders and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa regarding the abolishing of the Executive Presidency on March 06th at the Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo.

They had discussed the abolishment of the Executive based governance and the establishment of a parliament based governance, during their meeting. 

TNA supportive of 20!

Meanwhile, TNA-MP M.A. Sumanthiran said that his party was in support of the proposed 20th Amendment for the abolishment of the Executive Presidency. 

He said this during a conference organised to educate the people on the Executive Presidency and the new Constitution. Representative of several parties were present on this occasion.
