The programme would be implemented under the theme ‘let’s only purchase hygienically presented food’.
The drive to educate shop owners and food consumers on presenting safe food was held in 2018, while in 2019 the aim is to empower the consumers.
The drive would also encourage and empower consumers to reject unhygienically prepared food and complain about it to the PHI or the divisional health officers.
It has also been decided to take legal action against those who fail to present hygienic and safe food.
During this awareness week, canteen and eatery employees would also be trained for four hours on proper food safety measures and upon completion of the training they would be awarded certificates.
During this period, the canteens in state institutions, long distance bus stands etc would also be subjected to inspection.
