It further states, “The MP Monk in Jaffna referred to the North as ‘Hindu areas’.”
“If our society members are creating issues in Hindu areas, let us know. There is no need for the Police is such instances. Such issues could be entrusted to us to handle.”
The Thera spent several days visiting the North and East, which is seen as an attempt at winning over the Tamil people against the critical anti-Muslim sentiments. He was addressing a group of students who were being taught Sinhala by the Hindu-Buddhist Circle which was established during the Rajapaksa tenure together with the Defence Ministry.
Rathana Thera very emotionally revealed that 90,000 Tamil women had married Muslim men and had been converted to Islam, but blamed the TNA of not doing anything against it.
He also said that the Muslims are overtaking the Sinhala and Tamil businesses and said a Sinhala-Tamil Trade front should be established.
Rathana Thera suggested a Sinhala-Tamil political unity in order to defeat the Muslims at the next General election, adding that a ‘true Sinhala-Tamil champion’ would be appointed.
“If the Sinhalese and Tamils get together, we would make up 90% and we need not worry about the 10% Muslims.
However, the European Union delegation that visited the country met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and stated that Rathana Thera is levelling false and unfound allegations against the Muslims which would put the unity and co-existence in the country in jeopardy.
The Muslim Ministers who met with the Chief Prelates had said that they had resigned from their posts to avert trouble that could have been aroused due to Rathana Thera’s fast.
