Indictments filed against President’s ex-official, ex-STC Chairman

Indictments have been filed against President’s former Chief of Staff I. H. K. Mahanama and ex-State Timber Corporation (STC) Chairman P. Dissanayaka in the Colombo Special High Court by the Bribery Commission in connection with the incident where they had allegedly accepted Rs. 20 million as bribe from an Indian businessman.

The suspects were arrested on May 8, 2018 while accepting Rs. 20 million as bribe from an Indian businessman in the car park of a five star hotel in Colombo.

It was alleged that the two suspects had solicited a bribe of Rs. 540 million from the businessman but had come down to accept Rs. 125 million after negotiating with the businessman in order to support the businessman in obtaining proper approval required to certain machinery and building space he needed for the projects the Indian National had under taken at the Hingurana Sugar Factory.
